HIMALAYAN TSUNAMI’
LET US EXTEND A HELPING HAND (RAIZADA B D BALI -President GMS )
Dear brothers & sisters,
As we all know, in June this year,Uttarakhand had been devastated by unprecedented floods, and resultant
landslides, devouring people, animals, villages, standing crops, destroying communication systems, including roads,Tel-communication, damages to flora & fauna, agricultural fields & religious places, in what has been described by the Chief Minister of the state, as ‘Himalayan Tsunami’. The magnitude of the carnage is unimaginable. Earlier, it was presumed that the loss of human lives may be at best in hundreds. But now it is confirmed that it will run into thousands and thousands even though the exact figures are yet to come. The
amount required for rebuilding the entire infrastructure and giving succor and rehabilitating those, who miraculously survived the holocaust, will run into several thousand crores. While the state and central governments and many other social organization and individuals are doing their best in this regard, I feel that, as fellow Indians, it devolves on us, the Mohyals to do our bit in helping in the rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts. While our contribution could be a drop in the ocean, we will have the moral and emotional satisfaction that we have pitched in and provided succour to the needy in this herculean task. Last month, I had appealed through the Mohyal Mitter that the biradari may come forward and make donations for giving relief to the people affected by this great tragedy. We had further discussed this matter in the monthly meeting of our Managing Committee on the l4 th’ July 2013. There was unanimous agreement that the GMS,
its affiliated Sabhas and members of the community should contribute towards the rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts. It was decided that, along with the donations that may be received from
the members of the biradari, the contribution from the GMS to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund should be Rs. 5 lakhs. I would, therefore, urge the members of the community to donate liberally to this national cause. We propose to remit the amount by 31st August, 2013 and I would therefore request all of you to send your donations well before this date so that the consolidated amount can be remitted by the aforesaid date. Your cooperation in this noble cause will be highly appreciated.
With kindest regards,
RAIZADA B D BALI -President GMS
